Homemade SpongeBob Cake

I made this SpongeBob Cake for a family reunion where there would be 12 kids. The kids were all over this cake the entire time until we cut it. It was hilarious to watch them prod and poke at it, wondering if it was a toy or cake.

Spongebob is stacked cake with two support rods, and one piece of cardboard in the middle. I cut holes into the cake before applying the buttercream or fondant. After applying fondant, I used a fondant tool to go back in and impression the fondant into the holes.

His arms and legs are fondant, as well as the details on his face. I made this cake in June 2009. GA is very humid in the summer and in order to get his facial features to stick immediately, I used an compressed air can to freeze them on.

Gary is made entirely of fondant. Spongebob's feet are carved Styrofoam covered in fondant. The sand is made out of ground up graham crackers.
