Homemade Spongebob Square Pants Birthday Cake

Homemade Spongebob Square Pants Birthday Cake

I made this Spongebob Square Pants Birthday Cake for a friend of mine's little girl. I started with baking (2)11x15 sheet cakes. I stacked them onto each other. I then cut a strip off the bottom about 2 inches wide to use for the shoulders and pants legs.

I iced the body and head in buttercream. (Wilton has a set of icing colors specially made to color Spongebob, you can find it at hobby lobby, Michale's, Walmart, etc.). I also took my fingers to make the little indentations to make his head look like a sponge. For the arms and legs, the hands and boots were made from foil that I shaped to look that way. I then attached them to plastic hollow dowel rods (you can find them in the cake decorating isle) and then I covered them with colored fondant. Then you simply take them and place them into the piece of cake that you placed for the shoulder.

The crabby patties are made from extra pieces of cake and colored icing. You could also make the arms, legs, boots, hands, crabby patties out of fondant or rice krispies treats. And there you have it. I hope that makes it pretty easy to follow. Happy Baking.
