Homemade Spongebob Squarepants Cake

I used a white cake mix and baked it in a 13X9 pan for this Spongebob Squarepants Cake. When it was done, I let it cool for about 20 minutes. I then cut the cake into three sections.

I cut his pants and shirt equal sizes and left the majority of the cake for the 'sponge.' I used chocolate frosting (a quarter of 1 can) for his pants and used vanilla frosting (2 cans) for everything else. I used food coloring to make his eyes blue, his tie red, his 'sponge' yellow and his spongy holes green.

I frosted each piece by themselves and then put the three pieces back together like a puzzle. To make the cake pieces stick better I put a little bit of frosting in between like a glue. I then outlined everything with a toothpick before I started with the colored frosting.

After all the colors were finished, I then used black gel to outline everything. Cooking time, cooling time and decorating time took about 3 hours total.
