Homemade Star Birthday Cake
My cousin's wife was having a black and white themed 40th. The bottom layer of the Homemade Star Birthday Cake is a lemon Madeira cake with lemon curd filling. The top is a vanilla and jam. I used white sugar paste to cover over a layer of butter cream. I used black sugarpaste for the letters, using a tappit letter cutter.
The star topper I made about a week before using black sugar paste mixed with gum tragacanth, and the same for the white stars, I used three different size star cutters. I inserted them onto the silver florist wires with a little edible glue on the end of the wire. I left them to dry flat, then arranged them into a posy securing with florist tape and placing into a posy pick, which was popped into the top cake on the night.
I sprinkled the cake with white edible glitter.
