Homemade Star Wars Clone Wars Commander Fox Cake

Homemade Star Wars Clone Wars Commander Fox Cake

My 9 year old son wanted a cake of Commander Fox from the Star Wars Clone Wars movie. I have been making cakes for my children for 10+ years but this cake was the most difficult for me. Probably because I didn't have templates for cutting out all the pieces. Fortunately, my husband helped me figure it out and it turned out great.

I made a cake in the 12" pan and a 10" pan. I used the 12" cake for the shape of the helmet. I cut up the 10" cake for the other pieces (the mouthpiece, the fin at the top). I frosted the cake with buttercream first, let it set (dry) then topped it with white fondant. I then colored fondant in black and then burgundy. To figure out the right sizes/shapes of those pieces, I looked at a picture of Commander Fox and also my son's clone helmet. Fortunately, it all came together nicely.

My soon to be 6 year old wants a Star Wars Clone Wars cake and yours looks fantastic. He thinks I can do something wonderful like you did but I am not talented at all. You did a wonderful job on the cake.

Awesome Clone Wars cake!
by: Mandy

Diane, At only 5 years old, my son is a Clone Wars fanatic! This is a wonderful cake, and I'm planning on doing something similar for my son for his birthday in March. Thanks for sharing on the internet so some of us can get some ideas. We appreciate it (those of us who have Star Wars fanatics in our homes)!

Your cake is wonderful! My son is turning 5 and would give his arm for that cake. Too bad his mom isn't very talented! Do you want to come over and make it for him? :)

I too have been making homemade cakes for my children for 11 years. My son wants a Star Wars cake for his 9th b-day next month and I'm surfing' around on Google to get ideas. Your cake is exceptional and I take my hat off to you! That cake is fantastic! I was wondering though, I've never worked w/Fondant.. is it hard to work with or is it like playdoh and you just add icing gel to change the coloring.

Diane, you are really talented! I hope Ben realizes how much time his Mom took to make his birthday special. If not now he will when he gets older, he will. Wow!!

Hi Diane,
I would have liked to see this cake in person. It truly looks like a Star Wars helmet! Good Job
