Coolest Stitch on the Beach Birthday Cake

My daughter fell in love with Lilo and Stitch so it was not a surprise when she asked me for a Stitch inspired cake for her birthday. I used an 8″ round pan for the bottom layer and a 6 ” round pan for the top. When the cakes are completely cooled I put some frosting on top of one cake and inverted the same sized cake on top of it and proceed to cover the entire cake with more frosting.

I then left them in the fridge overnight. The next day I begin assembling the cake by coloring and rolling the fondants to half inch thick and covered the round cakes. I found sea shells at Hobby Lobby, cleaned them and used them to decorate the cake. I also made some sea shells free handed using fondant and I just rolled two colored fondants together to get the two toned sea shell color that I want.

I sprinkled brown sugar to make it look like sand around the cake and some fake orchids to get that tropical feel. We made the stitch topper using fondant and tinting them blue, black and red. I also had pearl sprinkles that I used in between the squares to get the quilted look for the top layer.

My daughter and I had so much fun making this cake!
