Homemade Strawberry Shortcake and Friends
I made this Homemade Strawberry Shortcake and Friends for my daughter's 4th birthday. I thought it would be fun to have a 3-D cake with the Strawberry coming out of the cake as a house. It was tricky, as I made the house out of rice krispie treats and frozen it earlier in the day. I baked two 9x13 cakes as the base. I mixed all icing and refrigerate it hours before decorating.
I had an issue with the strawberry house being too heavy to stand on it's own, so I put to dowels in it and also put a prop behind it to keep it upright. Then, I got to decorating using a reddish pink, light green and yellow as the main colors. I used fondant to cut out the leaves and shapes on the front and sides of the cake and also the basket. I should have used mini chocolate chips for the strawberry seeds, but used a #18 tip with chocolate icing instead.
Next, I put down the walkway and lined it with pastel skittles and added the dolls and fresh strawberries too. She loved it when she saw it this morning, let's hope it transfer well to the party destination. Enjoy!
