Homemade Super Mario Cake

Homemade Super Mario Cake

My son, Sam turned 5 and wanted to have a Super Mario birthday party. I searched to find ideas on making a Super Mario Cake. I baked a home-made pound cake in 1- 8inch round pan and 1- 6inch round pan. I covered the cakes with a light blue buttercream frosting. Then, I used fondant (doctored up with almond extract and powdered sugar to enhance the flavor) to cut out game board pieces.

I ordered a few small plastic Super Mario figurines (including Mario, the princess, Luigi and Bowser). I made the little brown monsters with fondant as well as the flowers and other pieces. The mushroom on top is a rice crispy treat covered in fondant. It was a big hit!

Fondant can be made or bought at your local grocery store in the baking isle. Usually where near the candles.

My kids and I were at this party and the cake was GREAT!! Kids and adults were amazed at how real the cake compared to the game.
