Homemade Sushi Birthday Cake
This Sushi Birthday Cake is made of two round layers of cake. The outside shell is made up of Rice Krispies. To make this layer, I followed Kellogg's recipe.
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 package (10 oz., about 40) regular marshmallows
6 cups Rice Krispies
1. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
2. Add KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES cereal. Stir until well coated.
You'll have to work fast, but be careful not to burn yourself with the gooey marshmallow mixture! To be safe, a spatula should be used to coat the entire cake, but I resorted to doing it by hand because I found the spatula annoying. Mold and shape this layer until it resembles a piece of sushi.
White icing with food coloring was used to make the "rice" portion white and the "nori" portion black. Again, I used my hands to get the color in all the crevices created by the rice krispies.
For the "tuna", "avocado", and "cucumber" filling:
The tuna was made of Swedish Fish candies that I melted in the microwave. Be careful not to burn yourself if you use these!! The avocado was white icing with food coloring. The cucumber were green jolly ranchers I pushed down into the cake.
For the "roe", "ginger", and "wasabi": The roe were cinnamon candies, the ginger and wasabi were both molded Air Head candy.
This cake is pretty, but a bit difficult to cut through, just fyi.
