Homemade Tank Birthday Cake
My son Cameron is a real WWII buff. He loves going to military museums and wanted a military type cake. I looked on-line for creative birthday cakes and loved your selection of tank cakes. I took ideas for this Tank Birthday Cake from all of the pictures and made my own creation.
I used a 11 x 13 pan for the bottom and a loaf pan for the top. It required 2 white cake mixes. I used regular white/vanilla frosting in a tub and mixed a whole tub with Wilton's moss green icing color paste for the base color. The camo splotches were made with about a 1/4 cup of the white frosting mixed with Wilton's juniper green. I found it easier to work with using a toothpick to spread the splotches.
I used Oreo cookies for the wheels and Hershey bar pieces for the track. An Oreo Fun Stix made a great gun barrel. Half of a cookie was the open hatch and a plastic army man was sticking out.
Last of all, I used Wilton's black color mist to give the frosting a more camo look and added cookie crumbs around the cake for dirt.
