Homemade Tasha from Backyardigans Cake
For my grand daughter, Sienna Lee's first birthday I decided to make a cake with a difference. She is crazy about the Backyardigans and Tasha in particular. I have never decorated a cake so I used the internet to walk me through.
I used a chocolate cake mix (saved time and effort). I applied the butter cream then covered it with rolled fondant. For Tasha image I sketched the image (from the internet) and traced it on to gumpaste and the rest was a breeze. I got a lot of ooohs and aaahs. Sienna Lee clapped when she saw the Tasha from Backyardigans Cake and proceeded to 'attack' it.
I was not too pleased with the gumpaste. It was too brittle so the next time I will use fondant and mold the characters.
I am now hooked on cake decorating and my next project is a pillow-shaped cake for my daughter's 3rd wedding anniversary.
