Coolest Tea Party Birthday Cake

I made this Tea Party Birthday Cake for my daughter’s second birthday. We used the tea party/Alice in Wonderland theme. For the teapot I used the smallest pyrex glass bowl, with a cake mix in it. I made two of these and stuck them together with frosting and tooth picks to make a big 3D circle. I cut about two inches flat off of the bottom for it to stand up. I then used fondant for the spout, which was easily shaped, but I put in the fridge over night to harden. It was a little tricky to keep it attached to the cake, so I had to prop it up against the cupcakes.

I did the same for the handle. I used a flower cookie cutter to cut out a fondant flower to place on the teapot for decoration, and I rolled up fondant balls to place around the “lid”. I found some twisty candles for the top, and I used a ring-pop for the lid handle. I placed the cake on a tissue-papered cake board.

For the cupcakes I used the same buttercream and piped it in a swirl around the cupcake. I them cut out tea-pot shapes with a cookie cutter using fondant and placed them on the cupcakes. For the 4 special cupcakes (for each child I placed mini cupcakes in tea set cups, and used buttercream for the top like the other ones. I then instead placed icing flowers on top of each, and tied a polka-dotted ribbon around each, and placed them all on a saucer.
