Homemade Teapot Birthday Cake

This Teapot Birthday Cake is one of my first cakes, which has inspired me to many more cakes.
I don't like the taste and texture of fondant so I tried to use as little as possible.

For the cake I used the large sports ball cake to make the ball shape. The cake was just regular box cake. I recommend white, so that crumbs don't show through the frosting.

The handle, spout, and top was hand molded out of white fondant. I used toothpicks to keep them in place. The flowers and leaves were made out of colored gum paste and a flower molds I purchased at a craft store.

To get less lines on the main part of the teapot I recommend using buttercream, instead of the canned stuff.
