Homemade Teapot Cake

My aunt found a teapot cake similar to this in a magazine and sent it to me. My friend collects teapots so I did this for her birthday.

I used the sports ball pan from Wilton and one cake mix and baked according to directions.

Let cool and trim the very top and bottom. Reserve one piece for the lid. And for the handle on the lid I used an apple corer and cut that piece out of a cupcake.

I used buttercream icing in blue. I tried not to mix it too much so it would have a tie-dyed look.
Then I used fondant to make the spout and handle and little balls and tea bags. I used curling ribbon to connect the tea bags to the tea pot.

I attached the fondant parts with icing and the handle and spout I used toothpicks as well.

Oh, I iced between layers and then let sit and dry for a few minutes. Then smoothed out with a Viva! paper towel.

I used the premade candy letters to spell out happy birthday.
