Easy Homemade Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Cake

I made this cake for my son’s 4th birthday which had a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle theme.

I used store bought cake mixes. Leo’s head is an 8″ cake that I cut and shaped. His body is a 9 x 13 cake. The ends of the mask are leftover pieces I had cut off the other cakes. And the arms/legs are cupcakes. The green frosting is a buttercream frosting (made using the recipe off the confectioners sugar box)with green food coloring. I kept adding drops until I got the desired color.

The shield on his chest is the same frosting with red & green food coloring and some white Wilton icing from a tube. I used a toothpick to add a little detail. The mask/eyes are blue/white icing from a tube I got at the grocery store. And his mouth is just black cake writing gel.

My son insisted I had to make Leonardo swords so I cut a big long tootsie roll I found at The Dollar Store and covered it in tin foil. My son loved the cake which is all that matters!
