Cool Homemade Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Birthday Cake

I asked my nephew what kind of cake he would like for his 7th birthday and here it is, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles birthday cake. I made 2 x 8in chocolate round cakes and 1 x 8 in strawberry cake. I wanted 3 layers so it would be higher, (I made cupcakes with the left over strawberry batter). I used butter cream frosting, colored green and fondant for the top and turtle heads.

After baking and cooling cakes, I started with a chocolate layer on the bottom filled with frosting, then filled the strawberry layer and topped with the chocolate layer. I smoothed frosting all over. I added black food coloring gel to the rolled fondant to get a grey color and with the bottom of a spring form 8 in. pan I pressed it onto the fondant and cut out 3 holes with one of my piping tips  so it would look like the lid of a sewer hole.

Next with green colored fondant I shaped the heads, rolled the different colored mask, cut out triangle white fondant for the eyes and little black dots for eyeballs, just stuck them on with a little water, not too much, it will get too soft. I cut out the letters using the black fondant and wrote happy birthday with black butter cream frosting. It was a lot of fun to make and very easy.
