Homemade Thomas And Friends Birthday Cake
I made this Thomas And Friends Birthday Cake for my son's 3rd birthday. The cake was iced in the blue and green buttercream first. The bottom is 3 layers and the top is 2 layers. I used fondant to make Tidmouth Shed and used an impression mat to make the brick look. Then I made little gray squares to outline the individual sheds. It worked out really well!
Then I carved into the cake a little to make some room for the trains and filled the holes with black icing so you couldn't see the cake. It did stain the trains but that's ok. I used my new (love it!) clay extruder to make the fondant tracks. The mountains are also made out of fondant. I laid them out on the table to cut them first then put them on the cake.
The clouds are buttercream. Then I used cookie cutters to make his name out of thick fondant and put dots on them with buttercream. I was really proud of how it came out and he really loved it.
