Homemade Thomas The Tank Engine Birthday Cake

I used a regular 3 dimensional cake pan and decorated it using the Thomas colours. Then I made the freight cars out of small loaf pans and iced them in grey icing and filled them with various types of candy. I actually got the idea for the track for this Thomas The Tank Engine Birthday Cake from another parent on this site.

I used licorice and lady fingers for the track. I filled the middle with coconut that was coloured green to look like grass. It is easiest to put the coconut into a container with the food colouring and shake it to coat it entirely before putting it on the cookie sheet.

Tip: I was told to freeze the cake before icing it and this made it so much easier, no cake pieces mixing with the icing!
