Coolest Thomas the Tank Engine Cake

This is a second attempt at Thomas the Tank Engine cake, the first being over 15 years ago for my son’s 3rd birthday. This was made for a friends son’s 2.

I used a Wilton 3D tin, and carved the cake into a more Thomas look before icing. I put an instant pudding mix in with the cake mix, to give a firmer sponge, very tasty too. I found it a little moister than using pound mix.

Thomas and the platform are covered with fondant icing, I mixed a little Tylo powder with it for the face, just held the shape better. The board is covered in fondant, and all the accessories, bench, sign, plant pots, etc are modeled with sugarpaste and petal paste. I made the gravel on the train track by crumbling up left over dried sugarpaste, looked quite effective.

Nothing was too hard, just time consuming, and I was quite happy with the results, but look out for Thomas the 3rd.
