Coolest Thomas The Train Cake

The front train was made from the Wilton 3-D train pan. Each of the two cars in the back were cut out of 1/4 sheet cakes. This Thomas the train cake will feed approximately 65 people.

To stabilize the train cake, I baked it ahead of time and put an icing filling between the two halves. I put them together and wrapped the cake tightly in plastic wrap. I froze it overnight so that the cake is settled and the two halves won’t separate when decorating or transporting.

A star tip #16 was used to decorate the entire cake. Each cake was decorated separately and then placed on the board. The board that the cake is sitting on is a full sheet wooden board covered in red floral paper. Plastic balloons were used as “smoke” but I have also used fondant balls instead.
