Coolest Tiger Birthday Cake

I came up with the idea for this Tiger birthday cake for my son’s 1st birthday because we were planning a zoo themed party. First, I traced the pan on a sheet of paper and practiced drawing the tiger face to be sure that I could do it. It also gave me something to go by when it came to decorating the cake.

I baked 2 9in circle cakes and stacked them on top of each other to make a double layer cake. Then, I looked at my drawing for the tiger’s face and basically free handed it. I drew on the cake with my icing tips just as I had drawn on the paper with my markers. The cake was white cake with cream cheese flavored frosting.

This was my first ever cake with any type of design on it. I think for the most part it turned out pretty good!

  1. To separate the icing colors I simply used my decorating bags with tips and drew the design out on the cake. Then, I used a knife to spread the icing around in the area I needed it to be in. It took a steady hand, but I will say in some places it mixed a little but it was easily covered when I used the black to outline parts of the face.

  3. Thank you for your cake advice. I basically copied your cake and it was a huge hit. Wonderful for someone like me who is not creative.

  4. Love the cake! I’m going to make one for my 2 year old granddaughter. A couple of questions:
What did you use for ears since it is a 2-layer cake?
And did you measure about how many inches down to start white section? Thanks for your help.
