Homemade Tiki Birthday Cake

Homemade Tiki Birthday Cake

I used 7" round, disposable aluminum tins and made the chocolate cakes from scratch for a heavier, more durable Tiki Birthday Cake. The cake is 5 layers that were on the thin side. I froze the cakes for ease of handling when frosting. I used chocolate butter cream and premade, pressurized tubes of frosting for the decorating. The teeth are mini marshmallows that I cut in 1/2 with a cheese slicer.

The cake started to tilt anyway, so I staked it up with 3 bamboo kabob skewers and hid them under frosting on top. It made it through the rather warm day and my daughter, who turned 6 LOVED it!

Since this was for an outdoor party with +10 6 year old's and several adults, I also made chocolate (and some white) cupcakes with cocktail parasols on top. The green "palm trees" are parasols that I snipped into shape.

The "happy birthday" banner was just a printout on the computer.
