Homemade Tinkerbell Birthday Cake

Homemade Tinkerbell Birthday Cake

I've been doing cakes in my spare time for a long time now. I really feared using fondant and was determined to stick with my home-made from scratch icing recipe (given to me by a friend). I decided it was time to get with the program and go for it. It seems to have worked out really well.

I used a 12" round pan (two layers for the base) and the Wilton sports ball mold (one half) for the rock of this Tinkerbell Birthday Cake. Baked as directed. I used Satin Ice Fondant (which actually tastes pretty good) for the covering and the flowers. I did cover the cake completely with buttercream (Wilton recipe) prior to adding the fondant. It makes the fondant stick.

For the vines I used sparkle gel. I molded the mushrooms out of fondant. I bought a little Tinkerbell doll to set on top and there you go. It came out a lot better than I imagined.

I didn't use a recipe for the fondant on this cake. I used Satin Ice brand fondant.
