Coolest Tinkerbell Cake

This Tinkerbell cake I made for my granddaughter’s 1st birthday. My daughter had seen cute table settings for a birthday and decided on Tinkerbell as the official theme. This was my first doll cake and my daughter and I had so much fun!

I used the large Pampered Chef bowel for skirt and a 12 inch floral pan for bottom. I used one cake mix for each. I used French vanilla for skirt and chocolate for bottom layer. When baking skirt turn oven down to about 300 and cook slightly longer. About 45 mins.

After cakes were fully cooled I torted the skirt into three layers and filled with butter cream. I then crumb coated the skirt and the flower.(chill) While these chilled to set-up I mixed my frosting colors for the base and dress. I also mixed bright green color into MM fondant and bright pink for dress bodice, flower petals and polka dots. Cover and set aside.

Next I used a long serrated knife to core out the center of the dress piece, I pressed a shot glass into cake to use as a guide for cutting. I then placed a generous layer of butter cream in center of bottom cake and placed dress on top. Large side down, of course to form the bell of dress. I used two distinctly different star tips for covering cakes. I covered flower layer with yellow stars and the dress with pale green stopping just short of hole in skirt.

I then undressed a purchased Tinkbell doll and wrapped her in plastic wrap up to her waist. I used bright green fondant to make a bodice and inserted doll into hole pressing wings slightly into cake. I then continued piping the stars until they met the fondant covered bodice. Finish cake by rolling fondant thin and cutting long and short petals. Slightly dampen backs of petals and place at waist. Make certain to use a tooth pick to press into place at waistline. Then cut polka dots out (I used a shot glass) of fondant and place on bottom layer, again dampening back slightly.

As an after thought I realized I didn’t leave room for writing so I made a plaque out of fondant and wrote with royal icing my message and let dry. Placed on cake when dry.
