Homemade Tinkerbell Cake

I was asked to make a Tinkerbell cake for my friends' 3 year old, Daisy, and so decided to make it as bright and fun looking as possible for her.

I made the Tinkerbell a couple of days in advance as she was quite complex, she's made from fondant and is 100% edible. Her wings were very fragile and hard to attach but a few extra dabs of wet icing finally got them stuck on.

I made a large sponge cake in a ovenproof glass bowl and sliced the bottom to make it perfectly flat, I put a layer of jam in the middle and then glazed the whole cake with boiled marmalade to help the icing stick.

I kneaded some green colouring paste into a large slab of fondant icing and covered both the board and the cake.

The toadstools are made from fondant with candysticks through the centre of the stalks for extra support.

The flowers and butterflies are also made from rolled fondant icing cut into shapes, I used yellow skittles for the pollen centres to finish it all off.
