Homemade Tinkerbell Cake

Homemade Tinkerbell Cake

I made this Tinkerbell cake for a first birthday party. The square "field" on the bottom is yellow cake, while the tree stump is chocolate cake.

The field is one layer yellow cake I baked in the square 12" pan, covered with buttercream icing grass (I used the hair/grass tip).

The stump is made out of devil's food chocolate cake and I baked it in two 6x2 in. round pans. I used homemade chocolate icing, which is actually cooked, so I iced the stump while the icing was still hot and it spread easily. Then I chilled the leftover chocolate icing and put it in an icing bag in order to make the roots. Then, with a kebab skewer, I traced lines and whorls into the chocolate icing to make it look more like bark.

The flowers and leaves are also made out of buttercream. The mushrooms were made using Wilton's meringue mushrooms directions (they came on the paper included with the meringue powder).

Tinkerbell, is actually a candle that I bought. I put some leaves and flowers around her base in order to make her look more like part of the cake (I also made sure my icing colors matched her).
