Homemade Topsy Turvy Cake
This Topsy Turvy Cake is a 3-tier white cake, iced with buttercream, with marshmallow fondant decorations. I usually don't cover the cake completely with fondant because most people do not like the taste, but I like the look of marshmallow fondant decorations.
This cake was for a 40th birthday party, so the black was appropriate. It is important to use skewers to make your cake as steady as possible. With the correct structure, your cake will stand up in any conditions. This cake traveled down one mountain, and up another with no problems. All of the decorations are really simple to make on this cake using small cookie cutters and a pizza cutter for the zebra stripes, but when they are put together, they look like so much more.
My suggestion when doing zebra stripes is less is more. The first time I tried it, the cake looked like a pinstriped suit! Experimenting with color and shapes will give you great cakes in the end.
