Homemade Topsy Turvy Cake

This Topsy Turvy cake was inspired by a few from this site (Topsy turvy cakes). I made this cake to celebrate 4 different birthdays (children): 3 girls and a boy ages ranging from 7 to 13. It needed to be gender neutral.

I made 3 different cakes, carrot (bottom), chocolate (middle), vanilla (top). I used Wilton icing colours (they make very vibrant colours indeed!). It took 4 batches of buttercream icing to complete this cake.

The bottom was a 9"x13" rectangular pan. The middle is a two layer 8" circle. The top is the 2 layer 8" circle cut smaller to give the desired affect.

I cut the chocolate layers and vanilla layers into wedges and staggered them so they look off-balance.

For each colour of icing, I used a different tip. I used mini ice cream cones to make the turrets and decorated them with the same icing as the rest of the cake. The cones had little holes punched in the bottom to accommodate the funky candles.

Everyone loved the final result and the cake tasted as good as it looked!
