Homemade Tow Mater Birthday Cake
This Tow Mater Birthday Cake is a hand sculpted cake (no mold), covered in fondant, hand painted (no airbrush) with gum-paste and hard candy details. This was my first attempt at sculpting a vehicle and was also the most detailed cake I have done as far as the sculpting goes. I did not use any molds except for the hard candy "lights".
I used petal dust and luster dust to "paint" the cake. Everything is edible except for the cake board, support dowels, and the wire for the tow chain. I used spherical plastic cake dividers to raise the cake from the board. To hide them, I covered them in fondant and "glued" brown sugar "sand" to them with piping gel.
