Andy's Room Toy Story Birthday Cake
I loved the ideas already on this site for a Toy Story Birthday Cake especially for Andy's bed and went from there to make it my own. I started with a cardboard base covered in contact paper to look like a wood floor. There are two 9x13 cakes lightly frosted (crumb coat) and covered in white fondant and the corners folded to look like sheets.
The bottom "box spring" layer has wooden dowels cut to size to support the weight of the top layer and fondant quilt. The quilt was laid on next and I used tinted fondant and a toothpick pushed horizontally (and lightly) into the surface for the diamond pattern. A strip of white fondant along the top looks like a folded over sheet.
The pillow was made by wrapping two graham crackers together with fondant and pinching the ends to look like a pillow. The headboard is one graham cracker wrapped in brown tinted fondant. The four bed posts are fondant wrapped pretzel rods with a fondant wrapped Whopper on top. I used a small brush dipped in water to get the fondant to stick to the grahams, pretzels, and Whoppers. I used royal icing to attach the bed posts and headboard to the cake. Next time I will tint the royal icing to blend in a little bit better. I cut out tinted fondant using some alphabet cookie cutters for the name and number.
I attached the figurines using more royal icing and it was ready to go! Enjoy, this was a really fun cake to construct.
