Homemade Train Birthday Cake

I got the inspiration for this train birthday cake from this site, but I did a few things to make it my own. I used Wilton's 3D train cake pan for the engine of my cake, and decorated it according to instructions. I then used mini loaf pans and made them into train cars.

I took the last train car and cut it in half and stacked it, to make it look like a caboose. I used half an Oreo for wheels on the train cars, and used frosting to put a mini M&M in the middle of them. For the funnel I used mini marshmallows and a cotton ball to make it look like it was "steaming".

I decorated each train car with colors that matched the train, and filled them with mini M&M's and mini marshmallows. I then took rainbow colored Twizzlers and Keebler chocolate colored wafer cookies & made a train track. I also used the Twizzlers to connect the train cars.

The frosting I used was Rich's Bettercreme, and it worked out well.

It took me 8 hours to make this cake, it was very time consuming! But my little man loved it.
