Train Cake

Train Cake

This cake was for my nephew's 3rd birthday. I got the idea from a book about fondant decoration. I don't like fondant so we improvised. I used Betty Crocker yellow cake mix. I used whipped icing (bought by mistake) and added vanilla and powdered sugar to improve the consistency.

The cake consists of two 9x13 cakes (the body of the train), 1 cupcake (the smokestack and cow catcher), marshmallows (smoke), twizzlers (track and rod that turns the wheels), brownie cookies (wheels), gummi orange slices (hubs), graham cracker (window), sour gummi worms (window frame), m&ms (#3).

It was easier than I thought it would be. I wonder if I should have used another method for making the #3. It looks like a 3 to me but it could be better.

I love the cake it looks easy to make, maybe if all the m&m's are the same color for the #3 it would show up better.
