Cool Homemade Train Cake Design

To start this Train Cake Design I used two box cake mixes. I used two different size loaf pans, a tomato paste can, a diced tomato can and also mini muffin pans. For the engine I used the bigger loaf pan on the bottom, used wooden skewers to hook half a smaller loaf pan on for the cab of the engine.

The tomato paste can was used for the round part of the engine and a mini cupcake for the smokestack. Then I used a wire strung with marshmallows for the smoke. The coal was Bunch A Crunch candies. For the water car (the green one) it was the diced tomato can with a mini cupcake on top. The candies used in the cars were M&Ms, lemon heads and pretzels. The wheels on the engine were big Oreos and mini Oreo cookies for the other cars. The track was made of Kit Kats, pull apart twizzles and graham crackers for the dirt. I covered a wooden board with foil for the base.

I would say it took about 3 hours to decorate after the cake was baked and cooled. I baked the cake a day ahead of time, cut the pieces then froze them. My son absolutely loved his cake!
