Coolest Treasure Chest Cake

This treasure chest cake I made with my mom for my twin son’s third birthday. We threw them a pirate party- complete with a treasure hunt and treasure chest cake. It was a big hit.

We used sugar paper to coat the cake and achieve the wood look. Fondant was used for the straps, lock, and adornments. We used a Styrofoam wedge to prop up the lid of the cake and hid it with all of the candy. This cake traveled really well.

  1. I love the wood grain look and was wondering if you can give me some info on what sugar paper is, how to use it and where to purchase it. Thank you

  2. You can go to your local Walmart and have them print you off a piece. It’s like 8″ x 11″ sheet for $6 ish

You will need to have a copy of the print you want. Basically it’s like edible sugar made on rice paper. It taste horrible by itself. : )
