Homemade Treasure Chest Cake
This Homemade Treasure Chest Cake was made for my boyfriend's 18th birthday. It's my first big cake ever. It's an apple cake filled with white chocolate and cinnamon ganache to make the layers stick together. Four layers of cakes wrapped in sugar paste and decorated with painted sugar paste elements (skull, octopus, swords, handles to lift the cake, bones,...). The banners with his name on it were made out of sugar paste and the writing is made with edible ink.
I used lusterdust mixed with alcohol for the gold effect and brown edible paint with alcohol for the wood effect. I also used round cookies painted with gold lusterdust and brown sugar afterwards to decorate the plate and give it a sand look.
The cake was aproximatly 30x15x25cm's, so it could feed a lot of guests! I also made keys out of cookie to put next to it and made him "guess" which key was the right one so he could open the treasure and get his birthday presents.
