Treasure Island Cake

Treasure Island Cake

I made this treasure island cake for a friend's child's 4th birthday. He was having a pirate theme. I made a half sheet cake, and then sculpted down the "ocean" so that the island was higher. I made blue frosting for the water and tan frosting for the island.

I sprinkled brown sugar over the island for a sandy look. I made the waves by putting powdered sugar and milk to watery, thin consistency. I used this to create waves crashing on the island.

I made a treasure box out of salt dough (flour, salt & water). The coins were made from slicing juju-bees. I also cut some of the colored candies to look like jewels. I then bought some pirates and ship from the local party supply store. The cake was a big hit.
