Homemade Under the Sea Adventure Birthday Cake
My daughter wanted a Little Mermaid cake for her 6th birthday. I decided to do an Under the Sea Adventure Birthday Cake. The base is 2 - 9 by 11 cakes (I used white cake) with chocolate pudding between the two cakes. The clam shell is made from Wilton's doll mould pan. I carved it to look like a clam. Its held onto the cake with wooden dowels. The seaweed and coral is made from royal icing. The fish is made with fondant and the shells are made using a shell candy mould. I used buttercream icing and dyed it accordingly for icing the cake and clam shell. I wrapped Ariels leg in plastic wrap and then made a fish tail out of fondant.
My daughter was speechless when she saw the cake. It was hit with all the kids and parents at the party.
