Homemade Very Hungry Caterpillar Birthday Cake

Homemade Very Hungry Caterpillar Birthday Cake

I made this Very Hungry Caterpillar Birthday Cake cake for my partner's grandson.

The cake is made on a base of Victoria sponge cake (homemade) and covered with soft icing. The caterpillar is made from soft icing and hand painted.

Recipe for cake as follows:
8 oz each eggs, sugar, margarine, self raising flour.

In food processor cream sugar and margarine together until light and fluff, add eggs, slowly until mixed, scrape down sides then add sifted flour. Process until thoroughly mixed.

Put into two sponge tins and bake in a medium oven until cooked. When cool fill with strawberry jam and butter cream. And cover cake with regal ice.

Make caterpillar shapes from coloured soft icing.
Cut out shapes of oranges, plums, pears, strawberries and apple cores were made from coloured soft icing and left to dry before placing onto sides of the cake attached with a little royal icing.

Fantastic cake, one of the best Hungry Caterpillar cakes I've ever seen! Well done. Really lovely. Would be nice to see photos of the fruit etc around the edge of the cake too.
