Homemade Very Hungry Caterpillar Cake
I learned a lot about how to start thinking about this cake from this site. So, Thank you!
I baked two bundt cakes for the body and one round cake for the head. I cut the bundt cakes into thirds and reshaped them. I then sliced them in half length-wise to create two layers. I spread a layer of butter cream and then covered the entire cake to prepare for the fondant.
I rolled out the fondant in to two large ovals. I dripped one with green food coloring and the other with yellow. With gloved hands, I spread out the coloring. It looks like paint strokes. I used spray paints to fill in the colors and create a two tone look. I cut each oval into strips and arranged them over the homemade Very Hungry Caterpillar cake.
To make the head I cut out the shape from the round cake. I covered it with red fondant. The eyes are yellow and green fondant. The nose is a Hershey's Kiss.
The legs are also Hershey's Kisses. The spine are color toothpicks stuck into the cake (a bit hard to see in the picture).
