This Wow Wow Wubbzy Birthday Cake is decorated using only buttercream decorator icing (very stiff). I covered the cake in white icing and then allowed it dry a little and then smoothed it out with a viva paper towel. Wubbzy was made using a coloring page image. I used the wax paper and gel tracing method.
I placed the picture under the waxed paper and traced the outline and features with gel icing. Then I flipped the wax paper over onto the cake and gently pressed. I then used the outline to fill in with icing. I made the ball, clouds and grass freehand. I allowed them to dry slightly and then smoothed them out with viva paper towels also to give the smooth finish.
Fondant would probably have been easier, but I didn’t know how to work with fondant yet.
