Homemade WVU Football Helmet Birthday Cake

This WVU Football Helmet Birthday Cake was definitely a task to make but I think it turned out great. I made several round cakes and then stacked them with buttercream in between each layer. I then stuck the cake in the freezer to harden a little so it would be easier to carve.

Once carved I did a crumb coat and stuck back in the freezer while I made the icing and got it ready and the stencils. The guard in the front was made out of gumpaste and glued together with royal icing.
