Coolest Zebra Cake

My grandniece Riley and her friend Zoe were sharing a birthday party for 10 nine year old girls and they wanted a special cake. They drew a picture of the design they wanted and gave it to me to make and their art work is proudly on display in a frame hanging on my kitchen wall.

They gave all the flavors of the three tiers and the fillings and it had to be covered in hot pink fondant. I made a 10 inch regular yellow cake for the bottom tier and put a white butter cream between the layers. The second tier was a butter yellow eight inch cake with chocolate ganache between the layers and the top six inch tier was a milk chocolate cake with a fresh strawberry butter cream between the layers.

All three tiers were covered with a hot pink fondant with black zebra stripes and edged in neon green fondant balls. I made a neon orange fondant banner with both of the girls’ names and topped the cake with a neon orange fondant bow. I made the banner and bow a few days ahead so they would dry and make them easier to handle.

When I got to the party, I assembled the cake and added candles when it became cake time. If this is the type of cake my grandniece wants for her ninth birthday, I can’t wait to see what she’ll come up with for her 10th!
