Homemade Castle Birthday Cake
My daughter wanted a My Little Pony Crystal Castle birthday party, so I selected the Wilton "romantic castle" cake kit and crossed my fingers that I could handle a tiered cake (my first) with lots of turrets and cake!
It was a learning experience topping one cake on the other, and making sure the turret columns wouldn't topple overnight. Thankfully I had my mom help. She's made several wedding cakes and had the supports I needed (that didn't come with the kit).
The colors for the icing were Wilton colors and matched her real My Little Pony castle almost exactly. I ended up needing more purple cake sprinkle sparkles than I thought for the turret tops, so make sure you have at least 3 containers on hand. It's also tricky to frost the turret tops and not get your finger prints on them while putting on the sprinkles.
Overall, I think it was my best cake yet, if only for the look of awe on my daughter's eyes when she saw the cake.
