Cute Monster Truck On The Move

My partner and I made this monster truck cake for our grandson’s 3rd birthday. He is into monster trucks so we thought we’d try it out. We found both our cake recipes from blogs on the internet, choosing cakes that got many positive reviews. They were both delicious. We made a chocolate cake in an 8×13 pan and the same with the vanilla cake.

We iced the chocolate cake with butter cream chocolate icing and topped it with cookie crumbs. I free hand drew a picture of a monster truck that I had seen on the internet and cut out a cardboard template to assist me in cutting the cake. I lay the cardboard on top of the vanilla cake and cut out the truck. It seemed so small. But then we iced it with green colored buttermilk icing and started from there. We covered the areas around the window and bumpers and used edible spray paint to paint the windows and bumpers.

We cut out a flat colorful gummy-type candy for the flame, the name, the gas tank and the door handle. We used a red gummy candy for the head light. We used licorice for the door frame. We used a candle for the three (cut out the wick) because I ran out of steam. The spokes were cookie sticks and the donuts were from our local donut store.

All in all it was impressive.
