Daisy Cake

This was my first attempt at covering a cake with fondant. I made a home made lemon coconut cake with cream cheese buttercream filling and covered it with homemade fondant that I colored yellow. The bottom of the cake is covered with a white fondant ribbon. The daisies and the leaves are handmade from gum paste, and I made them ahead of time so they could dry before placing them on the cake. For the gum paste, I just bought the Wilton mix that has to be mixed with water. Once I rolled the gum paste out, I used a fondant cutter to cut the daisies and leaves. I softened the edges on the leaves and used a veiner to give them more detail. Then placed the leaves on a flower former in order to give them shape. The daisies are two cut-outs ‘glued’ together with water with a round piece of gum paste put in the middle. I painted the middle piece yellow, and then sprinkled it with yellow sugar crystals. I attached the leaves and daisies to the cake with just a little water.
