Homemade Darth Vader Cake

To make this Darth Vader Cake I had to purchase a Darth Vader cake tin from the USA. I used a basic sponge cake recipe from a Delia Smith cookbook and added cocoa powder to make it chocolatey.

I also made another big slab of chocolate cake to use as a layer underneath the Vader cake as the tin was quite shallow. I cut the cake slab to match the shape of the top layer and used chocolate icing to stick them together.

I then made a chocolate butter icing and added black coloring to it. I put some of the mixture into a piping kit and put the main outlines on to the cake. Then with a small paint brush, I then painted the rest of the icing on filling in the gaps.

It may have been easier to ice the whole cake and then put the detail on but I will never know!

Homemade Darth Vadar Cake

What to bake for a 35 year old? Obviously a Darth Vadar cake! The idea came to me from seeing the cake tin advertised on Firebox.com. My boyfriend loves all things Star Wars and I knew he would appreciate this.

I was concerned about how the cake would come out in the mold so didn't do anything too fancy - just a regular chocolate sponge recipe (6oz flour, sugar, butter, 3 eggs, spoon of coco powder.)

The icing was the real issue - I wanted it black and shiny but without losing the detail from the cake tin. So, I got a great recipe from my friend's mum. It's basically icing sugar, butter, coco, and condensed milk colored with black food coloring.

It came out great. Tasted a little bitter from the coloring so I served with cream and raspberries - was great!

The first thing with this cake for me was that the helmet took the helmet shape, not just like it was the front of a cap. So I just did a 2 pieces (like in the movie) with the face being one, and the helmet the other one.

Then I let the helmet dry for the night, with some things to keep it up so it just doesn't fall when I actually do the face thingies.

It was quite fun to make and I'm very proud of the finished product of the Dark Chocolate Side of the Force Cake.

For my nephew's seventh birthday both cakes were done using the image transfer method. I just printed out a picture of Darth Vader that I liked online and used clear piping gel to outline the image on wax paper and transfer it onto the cake, then filled in the image.

I was happy with how these cakes came out. I get a lot of great ideas from this site.

Homemade Darth Vadar Birthday Cake

This Darth Vadar Birthday Cake was for a little boy that loves Star Wars! So my husband and I cut the fondant out in the shape of the helmet, and also layered some for 3D effect. We used pearl dust to fill in the eyes and the front of the helmet. It turned out awesome, and the little boy loved it!

This Darth Vader cake was made free hand. This is a microwave chocolate cake using a 9x13 pan.
The frosting is a chocolate and black cream cheese frosting.

I used plastic spoons for the eyes. I used marbles for the mouth and covered with tin foil.

Darth Vader Cake

This was a Darth Vader cake I made for a 5 year old's birthday. The customer wanted a cake in the shape of a 5 with a picture of Darth Vader on it. The colors are specific to what the customer wanted.
