My Dearest Mummy Halloween Birthday Cake

I made this cake for my husband’s birthday. He is almost a Halloween baby, so I decided to surprise him with this little fellow. It is a ‘wine cake’ that you have to baby sit for a week by dripping sweet wine daily. The batter contains dry fruits and nuts, similar to a fruit cake, but tastes very different. The base was baked on an aluminum pan to give the coffin shape and the mummy was carved out of a bear molded cake.

The bandages of the mummy are made of marshmallow fondant, and the spider web and spiders on the base are piped white chocolate. The eyes are those gummies that they sell at the store to drop on your Halloween drinks, I thought they will make the mummy look funny. The last piece I used to decorate this cake was the purple spider. It was made with a marshmallow dipped in purple chocolate. The hat and eyes are fondant, and the legs simply pipe cleaners. At the end we had a delicious cute looking cake that was so much fun to make.

Carve the bear cake

A bear cake served me as a body for the mummy.

Decorating the mummy

To make the bandages, I used marshmallow fondant. You can see that it was intentionally dry to make it look old. Also set the gummy eyes on place.

I kept wrapping the mummy on its bandages until I achieved the desired coverage.

Making the spider

It was very easy by dipping the marshmallow on purple colored white chocolate. Once dried, I made a little hat, eyes, and mouth with the remaining fondant. Set the parts on place and used pipe cleaners for the legs.

Final presentation

I cut a cardboard on a ‘spider web’ shape and used foil to cover it. Put the spider on top of the mummy and voila!
