I made this homemade baby doll diaper cake for my daughter-in-law's baby shower celebrating our first granddaughter (Savannah Elise Russell) who was born January 30, 2003. I had never made one before and can't even remember what prompted the idea.
I found some miniature dolls (at Walmart) and a larger one I imagined popping out of the top. That doll, by the way, ended up being her favorite until she was about four and is still around somewhere in a toy box! I bought a cardboard cake disc and glued lace around the rim to simulate a traditional cake platform. Then I placed a plastic cake cover on it and glue gunned that down onto the cardboard.
I took newborn disposables, rolled them and secured them with rubber bands and placed them around the plastic cake dome, securing them with ribbon to keep them in place and start the next layer. I used a smaller plastic bowl for the next layer and repeated for the top. I decorated with miniature dolls, little silk roses, and baby bottles filled with pastel grasses.
I was looking for an original diaper cake for my Baby Shower for Twins. I looked through thousands and could not find anything that I liked or what I was looking for, so, I decided to take a bunch of different ideas, and combine them together!! This is what I came up with.
I used a lot of ribbon and bows to coordinate with the color theme of the girls room (brown and Pink). All of the diapers are completely 100% usable.
I didn't use any baby products in or on this cake being as I made it as a centerpiece for a baby shower, but you could fill the bottom layer with all kinds of goodies and clothes if you were to make it for a gift for someone else. You could even put things underneath all of the little cones on the tops of the towers.
I put the homemade baby girl castle diaper cake on a piece of foam board and decorated it to give it a little something extra.

I started this Horse Baby Diaper Cake for my daughter's baby shower. She is 7 months long and I thought the diaper cakes would make great centerpieces for each of the tables. So far everyone who has seen it thought it was great. It has given me many ideas I would like to do for future baby diaper cakes.
They are easy to make and take a good imagination to put a beautiful diaper cake together. This was my first diaper cake and I loved doing it. The centerpieces take about one hour a piece to make and I have 6 more to go with so many ideas flowing through my head. On the second diaper cake there will be a cow on top and rope around the middle with maybe spurs and some type of fencing and maybe green grass around the cow.
All it takes is a pack of diapers, rubber bands and a hot glue gun and your on your way to making your first baby diaper cake.
I made this Carriage Diaper Cake for my first nephew Zachary, who was born on Valentine's Day 2010. It was made from a storage basket, large blanket, ribbon, stickers, baby shower favors, and of course lots of diapers!
I started off with a design but then I got carried away and just started winging it. I think it came out pretty good! My brother and sis-in-law loved it!
