These Diego Cupcakes were made to go along with a Diego Jungle Cake. For the cupcakes I used a template that I printed from NickJr.com for the hair. I used chocolate candy melts and piped the melted candy onto wax paper with the template underneath (A toothpick was useful to spread the chocolate inside the outline).
After those cooled I stuck them on the edge of a peachy/tan frosted cupcake. Diego's eyes are mini M&M's stuck in the middle of white dots of frosting, then topped with a dot of black decorate gel frosting for the pupils. I had to go through 3 tubes of mini M&M's to find enough brown ones and I still had to use blue for one of the Diegos. His mouth is made of red fruit rollup and his eyebrows are black decorator gel frosting.
And just to top it off I baked the cupcakes in Diego cupcake wrappers!
My son wanted a Diego party for his 3rd birthday. I found the idea on the Nick Jr. website for the Diego Jungle Birthday Cake.
For the cake I baked three 8" round cakes. I stacked two together and left the 3rd on it's own and frosted them all green. For the palm trees, I used green candy melts (purchased at Michael's) heated until melted in the microwave. I put the melted candy into a Ziploc bag and snipped the corner off then "drew" leaves onto wax paper and let them cool.
Then I took pretzel sticks and "glued" the leaves and candy bananas (Runts) onto the pretzels with more of the melted green candy. Once everything was cool I stuck the pretzels into the cake. I used extra leaves to make the bushes.
Diego is a candle purchased at a party store and "Baby Jaguar" was just a small plastic toy.

This is the first birthday cake I baked. It's for my son's 4th Birthday and It's also a trial cake. It seemed successful and I will make the real thing next week, at a grander scale!
I used a 13x9" cake pan for the bottom layer and one 9" round tin for the waterfall levels. I cut the round cake into 3 pieces and placed them in the corner and had some leftover. I used white frosting and colored them blue & green. Some parts of the cake I used chocolate frosting. I had mini m&ms line the betweens of the colors. Glico Pocky chocolate sticks for the front of the cake. I used a Lego set Diego & Jaguar and animals and trees from my son's toys sets to decorate the cake. The road is made of crushed Ritz crackers. I'm proud of my first attempt in decorating a cake!
First I prepared two cakes, one 13x9 and the other 10x4. I then took the larger cake out of the pan and rounded the top and bottom and cut out the handle on top. I then took the smaller cake out of the pan and cut it in half so it wouldn't be so thick. Next I sculpted it out.
I then mixed white frosting and made it orange. I then put a crumb coat and put it in the freezer for 1 hour. I then put a second coat of orange frosting. I then made the eyes and mouth and out lined everything with black. I used the prebottled frosting for the black and the eye brows. I put white and red frosting in baggies to make the eyes and mouth.

My son loves Diego, so I made him this Diego Jungle cake because I just didn't want to make a body or head cake. The cake is 2 9x9 with green frosting. The trees are preztel rods with melted candy wafers as leaves and runts.
Bananas and monkeys are melted choc. wafers, jaguars are Nilla Wafers with frosting, bears are choc. cookies with frosting. the eyes are M&M's. You melt the wafers, make the monkey's, leaves and let them set in the fridge for 5 mins.
Takes a while to make and put together but it is worth it to see the smile on my son's face.
