I love this site, it is the first place I go when birthday time rolls around. I made this Girl's Dog Cake for my daughter's first birthday. I made the cake in a 9 inch square pan, then frosted it with pink frosting. The cake and frosting were special recipes, since she had some food allergies at the time.
I looked at some simple pictures of dogs until I found one I thought I could trace/sketch. I drew the basic shape of the dog's face on paper, then traced it onto the iced cake. I outlined it in black, and made the eyes and nose black also. I filled in the "fur" with white coconut, used a strawberry slice for the tongue, and added a pink bow out of fabric. This was her individual cake.
I also made a 9 x 13 cake with words - "Happy Birthday Libby!" for the rest of us to eat.
This Georgia Bulldog cake was a 1/4 sheet, chocolate cake. I used buttercream icing to support homemade fondant. I made and colored the fondant a day ahead of time.
After the cake was cooled and iced, I let set in fridge. Covered cake and cut a black fondant outline to mat the bulldog. I used black gel icing to draw the onto the fondant after drawing the details on it with an exacto knife. This way, I could see my lines easier AND the scores would cradle the icing so it wouldn't run while I was finishing. I don't have a "steady hand" so I needed that. That's why they call it, "EXACTO!"
Twisted the red and black and applied it with a little water. Stayed on for a whole day until delivery!
I made this Homemade Doggie Birthday Cake for my sister in law who loves dogs. The cake was 8in cakes deep with ganash between the layers. I had to use lots of dowels so it didn't fall over or sink. The head was made with rice crispy cakes and covered in fondant icing.
The cakes were covered in butter icing and then fondant icing. I covered a small section at a time in fondant icing then used a fork to make the fur. When it was all fur like I painted with watered down food colouring. For some reason all my photos make him look like he had a green head.
My sister in law was overwhelmed as first cake anyone has ever made her.
My mom has a Dachshund and I wanted to make a cake that looked like her. I found a picture on the internet, carved a regular rectangle out and decorated it! She loved the Dachshund Birthday Cake! Now she and my aunt expect doggy cakes for their birthday every year.
